Taylor Hauck, a sophomore at ELCO High School, just arrived home from spending two weeks in Honduras on a missions trip. While on her trip, she served by helping teach young children in their school.

“I have been on missions trips to the Dominican Republic and to NYC before, and I got the opportunity to spend the last two weeks serving in Honduras. I spent my days teaching in the Aunt Joan Christian Bilingual School, which works to teach the kids English as well as the love of Jesus. I worked with the second grade class. I taught some lessons on spelling, math, and science. One of the biggest things I did in the class was read to them to help them with practicing English.
Something that this trip taught me was to appreciate school. The school that I was helping in lost all of their funding and might not be able to stay open. We don’t consider the fact that all over the world kids are struggling to get education. We are privileged to have a school to go to where we can get a good education and not have to worry every day about our school closing down.”
Taylor’s experiences in Honduras highlight the fact that while service is uplifting, it can also be enlightening. She explained how teaching in Honduras helped her come to realize that not everyone is as fortunate as we may be, and this can bring a sense of gratitude to our lives. Living each day with gratitude brings us to realize how blessed we all are, which is also very uplifting.
Thank you, Taylor, for your example, your service, and your positive contributions to our school and to the world! Happy Sunday everyone!
