This week, ELCO Cares is not featuring an individual, but a team instead. This fall, the ELCO Varsity and Jr. High cross country teams volunteered their time to assist with the youth cross country team.

Youth cross country practices were held every Wednesday after school. Varsity and Jr. High runners would lead the youth through the workouts as well as making it a fun and enjoyable experience for the kids with games as well as popsicles after practice. The youth cross country program culminated in a youth meet, where all the kids ran a one mile race, cheered on by Varsity and Jr. High runners.

Thank you to all the runners who volunteered, as well as Coach Hartman and Coach Gerberich for organizing the program. As a volunteer in this program, I really enjoyed interacting with the kids, no matter how bad my day had been up to that point, the youth runners always brightened my mood. This experience taught me that uplifting others is often a great way to uplift ourselves as well!
