Cherish Weaver is a senior at ELCO High School, who has spent many weeks out of her summers serving on missions trips. One of the places she has served in is Guatemala.

“I have been apart of many mission trips both locally and internationally. From serving in the yard of elderly neighbors, to laying home foundations in Guatemala. I have traveled all over in order to share the good news of Jesus Christ and I have no regrets about it. The best part of it all, is that I do not have to rely on my own strength or ability, but instead I can simply allow Christ to work through me. My main take alway from the acts of service I have been a part of was how great of a God we have, even in the darkest places. I have gotten to know, and have fully experienced people who have much less than me, and in all honesty little to nothing. Yet their life seem more joy filled than the average privileged American student. I have learned that joy does not come from our possession or even our circumstances. Real joy can only come from Christ, our provider, fortress, and strength.”

Cherish’s experiences in Guatemala are a great example of how service can uplift us in personal ways, while lifting others as well. Cherish felt joy in serving others and this reflects how service is the opposite, more positive version of a double edged sword. Thank you Cherish for positively contributing to our school and in the lives of all those you serve!
