Good afternoon everyone! The topic of today’s article is a group of students who helped serve senior citizens during the Myerstown ELCO Rotary sponsored breakfast and musical preview for senior citizens. These students left their classes and gave of their time to help make an enjoyable experience for their elders.

A few students relayed their experiences to me:

Erin Speicher, a senior at ELCO High School, stated:

“I think it was a great service for the student council members and NHS members to do! It was a great to see the smiles on the elders’ faces!”

Junior Paola Lebron stated:

“I took part in the senior citizen breakfast on the day of the musical 'Mary Poppins.' I served food and afterwards cleaned up the aftermath. I was able to appreciate what the lunch ladies do for us on a daily basis. Now I understand how hard they work in order to feed us every single day.”

Another senior, Mikayla Breen, stated:

“It was nice seeing the their smiles when we asked them if they needed anything more. We should do more to make connections with and thank those who came before us.”

These students all show how service can bring us happiness, broaden our perspectives, and brighten the lives of others. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible, and to all the students who gave of their time to serve!
