Each year, ELCO High School hosts a Mini-thon event raising money for children with pediatric cancer and their families through the Four Diamonds Fund. Lily Brubaker, the vice president of the Raiderthon Club at ELCO High School, gave some more information on the event:

“This year was ELCO’s most successful mini-thon bringing in $13,000 to donate to the Four Diamonds Fund. The Four Diamonds Fund is an organization in place at the Penn State Children’s hospital and covers the costs that come along with the treatment of pediatric cancer and also puts money towards research for the cure. Although we aren’t able to offer a cure for these children, we are able to make the process a little easier for the children and their families so they are able to focus on healing rather than the financial aspect that comes along with the battle with cancer. The officers and leadership team as well as the advisors of the RaiderTHON club made this event possible through countless hours of planning and decorating. (President - Emily Williams, VP - Lily Brubaker, Secretary - Jadyn Baker, Treasurer - Jennie Axarlis, Leadership team - Jordan Rosengrant, Devon Rosengrant, Janet Keens, Sonia Fladd, Riley Keppley, Georgia Martin, Abby Zurick, Shae Parham, Austin Martin, Trynne Fladd, Advisors - Mrs. Hartman and Miss Sollenberger).”

“The RaiderTHON club goes through the collection of donations every year and still continues to feel great pride when it comes time for the total reveal. The stories that we share at our mini-thon give us the drive to continue to work to make our mini-thons bigger and better. They also give us the perspective to realize the great need for our donations among the families who are going through the battle with pediatric cancer.“

RaiderTHON is such an awesome event, and easily shows how service can be uplifting. Students are able to create a lot of great memories while participating in wholesome, fun activities—and it’s all helping a great cause. To be admitted into this event, students had to raise a certain amount of money for the Four Diamonds Fund, and many students went above and beyond the required amount. It’s truly inspiring to see the school come together to help children in need. The RaiderThon club also put in countless hours planning and decorating im order to make RaiderTHON 2019 the best one yet, and their efforts were definitely worth it, as they were able to raise more money than ever before.

Thank you to the RaiderTHON club, and to all the students who attended the mini-thon event for all your efforts to help the Four Diamonds Fund. Raising $13,000 is not an easy feat, and it is awesome to see such a clear example of serving and uplifting others and how it brought happiness to those who served.
