Good evening everyone! Today’s post is featuring the group of students who participates in the “Raiders Read” program this year, where students would drive to the elementary schools during the day to read younger students in the district. Here are some quotes from some of these students:

Danika Boltz (Senior):

“Raiders Read has been an incredible experience. When the readers walk in the kids get extremely excited, and they love to answer questions and share their work with us. They always want help and feedback, and when I talk to them or compliment their work it’s adorable to see how their faces light up. I’m really glad that I have the opportunity to spend my time working with the elementary classes, because working with all of the kids is just as fun for me as it is for them, and everyone ends up having a really good time.”

“Raiders Read has given me more of an appreciation for our teachers, because the program has you act as a teacher for the elementary students and provides you with a different perspective of schooling and how a teacher’s view is so different from ours. I’ve also become more appreciative of spending time with the kids. When they’re happy about something it’s almost impossible for me not to be happy with them.”

Julia Badolato (Junior):

“This has been a great way to connect with the younger Raiders of our school district. Seeing them smile and even recognizing me outside of the classroom brings me such a feeling of joy! My favorite part was the activities that we helped the kids with each time. The kiddos were able to express their creativity in such unique and different ways. Overall, Raiders Read was a super great experience and I’m definitely hoping to participate next year!”

Kaylin Nolt (Senior):

“It is always so much fun because the kids love having the high schoolers interact and ask them questions. I think it means a lot to the kids, and that makes it pretty special.”

These students all mentioned how being a part of this program has made them happy in addition to making the young students happy, and this truly shows how making others happy can make us happier as well.

Young children are highly impressionable, and good role models can have a huge impact on them. Thank you to all the students involved in Raiders Read who were good role models and gave their time to serve these students! Also, thank you for using your position to influence in a positive way and for brightening the lives of ELCO students of all ages. Happy Sunday everyone!
