John Ball, a sophomore at ELCO High School, shared experiences from his missions trip in New York City, and how it changed his perspective on everyday life.

“Hi I’m John and I went on a mission trip with my church to New York City. I always lived out here in the country with all of the toys and food I had ever wanted, and when I went to New York City my entire perspective was changed when I realized that some people cannot control the way life takes them. I worked in a senior center and at a free meal lunch program. At the senior center I realized that there are some people that really need extra love and attention because they don’t get those interactions. I realized at the free meal program that not everyone knows when the next meal is or if will even happen. Overall I’ve seen highs and lows and I’ve learned that I have it so much better than other people and that I shouldn’t take anything for granted.”

Having a grateful perspective in life is so essential when it comes to happiness and positivity. Not taking anything or anyone in our lives for granted and serving others in their times of need are both important aspects of feeling fulfilled and happy. Uplifting others is truly dually effective and double sided.
Thank you, John, for sharing your experience and perspective, and for serving those around you. Each person has a tremendous capacity to influence others for good, and we appreciate your positive impact within our school and country! Happy Sunday everyone!
